Browser game of the week: Sissy's Magical Ponycorn Adventure

​Can your five-year-old make a kick-ass game? You know, write the story, create the assets, record the voice-over and record some of the music? We didn't think so, but Ryan Creighton's daughter Cassie can, and it's called Sissy's Magic Ponycorn Adventure. It's a magical adventure about a ponycorn (they're the best things in the world because they're like ponies and unicorns) created in just three days at the Toronto Game Jam.

Of course, dad did the programming, but everything else was Cassie -- so if you want to get through this you'll need to think like a five-year-old. We know that's not too much of a stretch.

You'll travel around the world by moving through rainbows, where you'll meet a wide assortment of colorful characters. In order to get ponycorns from these characters, you'll have to solve simple logic puzzles, like finding keys to unlock prisons and getting a coconut to fight back against an evil lemon.

We probably shouldn't admit this, but we actually got a little stumped trying to save the purple ponycorn because we couldn't find the key. There are five ponycorns in total you'll have to rescue and put into jars (that's the only way to keep them safe) and once you do, you'll be finished with the game. It's short, but the adorability is dripping off this sucker by the pound, so its hard not to enjoy it.

​That's partially due to the art style, which is scanned in from the five-year-old herself and turned into short little animations. It looks like a coloring come to life, because that's exactly what it is.

There are a lot of games that play into your nostalgia of playing other games, but Sissy's Magical Ponycorn Adventure plays into something far more interesting -- it emulates the feeling of being a kid and making up your own worlds, your own games and your own ridiculous logic. If you ever spent hours wiling away character sketches of dinosaurs that shot lasers from their eyes or designed levels for Super Mario Bros. on lined paper, you'll find a lot to enjoy here.
