Update: Devo at the Denver County Fair tickets go on sale
Update: Yay! DEVO Tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. this morning! Get yours at the Denver County Fair website.
It's official: As previously reported here a few weeks ago, Barry Fey joined the Denver County Fair fold to help Dana Cain and Tracy Weil wrangle a high-profile act music headliner for the late-July fete. Now, word comes our way that said act is Devo, the Akron, Ohio band of the '70s and '80s that built its name and reputation on the concept of de-evolution.
Famous for quirky compositions, robotic delivery and trademark telescoping energy domes, Devo is known for such hits (and near-hits) as "Mongoloid," "Jocko Homo," "Girl U Want" and the ever-popular "Whip It," and master Devo personality Mark Mothersbaugh of course went on to make his name composing music for everything from Pee Wee's Playhouse to The Royal Tenenbaums, as well as for countless video games.
The ink is barely -- maybe not even -- dry on this one, but: "I've never been so elated as when I got that call from Barry saying they were confirmed!" says Dana, a devoted fan of the group who has never seen them live, adding with glee that Devo's new single, "What We Do," has "a repeating chorus at the end: 'Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, do it it again!' which ties in with all of our Cheeseburger events!" That's right: The Denver County Fair is launching a major cheeseburger campaign, with cookoffs and eating contests, as part of its programming.
Devo will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, in the National Western Stadium Arena; get more information at the Denver County Fair website.
