Robots and lots of blinking lights at Gear Up tomorrow night

It's not everyday you get to see an 8-foot-tall robot made of scrap metal or 2-foot minion playing projecting claymation off of its chest. Luckily, tomorrow, over ten artists will be displaying these and other works in several mediums including sculpture, lights and 2-D art in the robot-themed art show Gear Up. The show, presented by Pop Up Collective, will fittingly feature music from the 8-bit chiptune artist TV Death Squad, A.K.A. Marty Kraham, whose music echoes the sounds a Gameboy emits, blended with the effects of dubstep.

"Everybody likes robots" notes Corrina Espinosa, show member and owner of Little Crazy People Studios. "They're interesting. There's going to be laser lights bouncing off of mirrors, blinking lights -- personally, I wanted to do something with a lot of blinking things, and all the robots have blinking lights, sound and fun stuff."

The show is open to the public and Espinosa posits there will be something for everybody: "It's for anybody who loves art. Anybody who has any interest in robots. I'm thinking were expecting people from the younger art scene, because there will be a party in the night later on."

The show runs from 7-10 p.m. at 1.21 Jiggawatts, 1436 Tremont, with the party to begin after. Admission is free and includes beverages for all.

Editor's note: In an earlier headline, we incorrectly said that the date of Gear Up was tonight, June 3. In fact, the show's date is tomorrow, Saturday, June 4. We regret the inconvenience.
