Summertime and the living is easy...not. Here are five ways for local artists to stay busy during the dog days. Because -- wink, wink -- we know you're all lying around the pool sipping lemonade all summer long.

tbellphotographic, 900 Santa Fe Drive: Photographer/gallery owner Terri Bell is accepting entries for a juried exhibition of photography expressing human emotion. Better work fast: Submissions are due by tomorrow -- July 20 -- for the show Is This How I Look?, which opens August 19. Ken Hamel of denverarts.org juries; visit www.tbellphotographic.com for prospectus.

EventGallery 910Arts, 910 Santa Fe Drive: Along with Grow Local Colorado, the EventGallery is accepting entries of works in all media for Nature: Working!, a juried exhibit about permaculture that opens August 5. Time is also short for this one: the deadline is July 21. There's a registration fee of $10 per artist, for up to ten entries; go to www.910arts.com.

NEXT Gallery, 3659 Navajo Street: Denver art lover and artist booster Dana Cain is the juror for Heat, an open-entry show that debuts at NEXT on August 19. Entries will be accepted through August 3; get all the details at www.nextartgallerydenver.com.

Brighton Armory, 300 Strong St., Brighton: Art at the Armory is collecting entries of artwork using recycled, reclaimed and otherwise green materials for its September 24 Eco-Fair. Works will be accepted on a space-available basis until this show is full. Entry is free; visit www.brightonarmory.org for the lowdown

Cat Care Society, 5787 West 6th Avenue: Something must have gone seriously right at this year's Tails of the Painted Cats gala auction in June, because the cat-loving no-kill shelter is ready to start all over again and is seeking a new batch of artists to decorate fiberglass cats for Tails of the Painted Cats 2012. Sign up through September 15; along with the publicity, a T-shirt and tickets to the gala, you'll get a supply stipend to finance the artification of your cat. Go to catcaresociety.org.
