Redefine outdated concepts like "wheelchair" and "disability" this weekend at Winter Park
Get ready to give up any excuse you might have for not staying active and living a life of adventure: This weekend the National Sports Center for the Disabled is hosting No Barriers Summit 2011 at Winter Park "to promote innovative ideas, approaches and assistive technologies which help people with disabilities push through their own personal barriers to live full and active lives." Tonight's main event is an 8 p.m. screening of director Michael Brown's documentary Soldiers to the Summit (see trailer below). Duly inspired? Check out the adventure clinics and excursions (mountain biking, white-water rafting, kayaking, SCUBA, rock climbing and more) running all day and throughout the weekend with something for, quite literally, everybody.

Snowboarder and skateboarder Amy Purdy, shown here at the X Games, will be leading Adaptive Action Sports clinics this weekend in Winter Park as part of the NSCD-hosted No Barriers Summit 2011
Don't miss the Adaptive Action Sports skateboarding clinics at Hideaway Park, where Evan Strong and self-proclaimed fembot Amy Purdy will be demonstrating how to do the damndest things with prosthetic limbs. (For more on Purdy's "Living Beyond Limits" philosophy, check out her recent TEDxOrangeCoast talk below).

Featured technologies in this year's No Barriers Innovation Village include the PowerFoot BiOM Bionic Lower Leg System by iWalk, the Explorer II Off-Road Handcycle by Sport-On and Brad Zdanivasky's Vertical Challenge Rock Climbing Gear for Quadriplegics. And the Outside Adventure Film School will be in session -- with clinics lead by Michael Brown, Rob Jackson and Danny Johan -- for those of you as interested in getting behind the camera to capture the action and to tell the stories of these athletes as you are in living your own adventure stories.
