One artist in the RiNo Art District helped continue the recent wave of creativity coming out of River North on Friday night. Megafauna, a newish boutique shop that caters to local artists, opened just shy of four months ago at 27th and Larimer streets just above the Meadowlark. On Friday, artist Travis Conklin held his first showing of a clothing line and art installation that has been in the works since 2007: The Anthropomorphic Collective.

Conklin started designing shirts in 2007 because, quite simply, he was tired of seeing other people's graphics on shirts. What started as a backroom idea quickly turned into a profitable and expanding business model -- aptly named "Conkwear" -- it now sells both nationally and internationally.

He creates his own graphics using his own photography, then applies his creative eye through post-editing with graphics software. The installation Friday at Megafauna was the first canvas prints he has produced with his images, all of which are for sale with prices ranging from $300 ("Rhino," a rhinoceros head atop the torso of a tuxedo-wearing socialite; see below) all the way up to $975 (Think of the Mona Lisa crossed with an elephant," see above)

Those shirts are available at his website, www.Conkwear.com and Conklin says 10 percent of the profits are donated to charity.
