Go to the movies tonight at Gorinto
Gorinto, the weekly food-and-music joint at the Mercury Cafe, is known for bringing together eclectic bands with a $5 vegetarian meal. And tonight, they're adding film. Local filmmaker Kim Shively is curating a night filled to the brim with short films from local filmmakers, music, and as always, food.
Shively and Chris Bagley, who make up Eyeosaur Productions and whose past work includes the fascinating Wesley Willis's Joy Rides documentary, will be showing a clip from their new venture, Of Masks and Men. The film is a documentary about Mexican wrestling, and the clip will be just one in a group of diverse films. "It's a pretty eclectic group of filmmakers," says Shively. "It's everything from experimental video to documentary pieces." Every film caps in at under the ten-minute mark, and the evening will also include work from Chrissy Espinoza, Matt Slaby, Alicia Ordal, and Katrin Davis as well as music by Mr. Pacman, Night of Ultra Violence and Bury My Bones.
"For anyone who's in the filmmaking video community in Denver, it's a great way to meet people," explains Shively. "It's a really small community, but if you're new or just wanna get exposed to what people are doing this is a great opportunity."
Gorinto starts at 8 p.m. sharp at the Mercury Cafe, 2199 California St. Admission is $5, and $5 more gets you an organic vegetarian meal. For more info, visit the event invite on Facebook.
