Launch: Community Through Skateboarding Creative Center coming to Fort Collins

Launch: Community Through Skateboarding and the proposed Launch Creative Center in Fort Collins are ready to drop in, thanks to money raised at the All Hands On Deck art show and a fully-funded Kickstarter campaign that concluded last week, surpassing its fundraising goal by more than $1,000 for a total of $13,230.

"Thanks to everyone," Launch co-founder Andrew Weiss wrote last week, announcing the project had been fully funded. The Kickstarter money will be put towards facility rental, fixtures for the museum and library, and supplies for building a ramp. "Time to find a warehouse!"

We caught up with Weiss last month and got stoked on the concept: Weiss (former owner of the Market Skateshop in Fort Collins), Alison Alter (an art teacher at Fort Collins High School), and Justin Hocking (co-editor of Life and Limb: Skateboarders Write From the Deep End) are planning to create a skateboard museum, skate library, and workshop space for creative endeavors like building ramps, designing custom skate decks, making art and more (including an indoor ramp, of course), with the goal of preserving and promoting "a culture of creativity through skateboarding.
