A First Friday musician in July.
For the Halloween-phobic, we've still got plenty to do this weekend, including a craft event, race watching and dancing. It's First Friday to boot, so you should have plenty to keep you busy, all for less than $10 per event. For a complete guide to this weekend, go to westword.com/calendar.

Mile High Horror Film Festival at Starz FilmCenter (Friday-Sunday, $9)
Each screening during the Mile High Horror Film Festival is only $9, which is a great deal considering that you'll be able to check out a few first-run films in Colorado, as well as plenty of classics. It's sure to be an entertaining time for horror fans, but even if you're not into the blood and guts, there are other options. Read our interview with MHHFF director Timothy Shultz and about the music components this year.

Beads, Braids & Brows at Comfort Cafe (Friday, free)
This is the eighth annual Beads, Braids & Brows, an art show celebrating the life of Frida Kahlo. Stopping by will let you see all kinds of interesting stuff, including sugar skulls and artist-inspired wares. Plus, people tend to dress up, which is always fun.

Mobile Phone Juried Show Opening Reception at Gallery nrc (Friday, free)
Mobile phone pictures are becoming an increasingly popular means to document all kinds of events, but they don't always take the greatest pictures. Thankfully, this show at Gallery nrc is juried and showcases the best forty images -- which probably means that instamatic photo you took of your shoes didn't make it in.

Lipgloss at La Rumba (Friday, $5)
We're not all interested in getting the Halloween party started so early, and if you're putting off the costumed activities until it's actually Halloween, you might want to hit up Lipgloss for some smooth, easy dancing. You need to get in shape for that sexy devil costume anyway, right?

Devil Dash in Lyons (Saturday, free to watch)
You won't be able to race in the Devil Dash for $10, but it's one of few races that will certainly be awesome to watch. That's because it's not just about racing -- it's about racing through obstacles, including mud, blood and other messy things. And it should provide some awesome photo opportunities.
