What's a dance club without booze? Some might say "intolerable," but Darina Miteva -- perhaps better known as DJ Darina, Bulgaria's #1 female DJ -- would beg to differ. "Everything is full of drunk people," Miteva says. "People at home don't like the environment in the nightclub." Miteva, who doesn't drink, is one of them and so she's launching a solution: Fitness Clubbing, Denver's first "cardio nightclub."

The concept is part aerobics studio, part disco-ball nightclub. Miteva, who has lived in Denver for fifteen years, plans to offer one-hour fitness classes such as Zumba and turbo-kick on weekday evenings and "late-night club nights" featuring electronic music on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Patrons can buy a membership or pay a one-time entrance fee.

Though the atmosphere will feel club-like, Miteva insists Fitness Clubbing is different. "Club owners don't care about the people," she says. "They just care how much alcohol they can sell that night so they can make their money." There will be no alcohol at Fitness Clubbing -- just smoothies, a concept Miteva hopes will attract patrons "from 16 to 96."

The club's grand opening is tomorrow at the Sherman Street Event Center, which will be its permanent home. Doors open at 5 p.m. and it costs $5 to get in. There will be a Zumba class from 5:30 to 7 p.m., a turbo-kick class from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and dancing after that.

"It's going to be amazing," Miteva says. And you'll be sober enough to remember it.
