Doing it in public: Art show openings today at two downtown venues
Two very public downtown places will introduce new art exhibits today, and both are inviting the public to join in the party.
Gifford Ewing
The Alfred A. Arraj Courthouse at 901 19th Street is hosting the work of three contemporary Colorado artists -- Gifford Ewing, John Boak and Rick Dula -- in a show put together by the U.S. General Services Administration. "October is the National Endowment for the Arts 'Arts Month,'", explains GSA regional administrator Susan Damour," and this free exhibit gives us an opportunity to bring the unique visions of three pioneering Colorado artists directly to the public."
The GSA show, which runs through October 14, opens with a reception with the artists at 4 p.m. today in the courthouse lobby, where the artists will be present.
A few blocks away at the Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre, in the Denver Performing Arts Center off 14th and Curtis streets, Arts & Venues Denver will host a public reception from 6 to 8 p.m. today for two new shows, Stupendous Stitchingby Carol Ann Waugh and Romanced by Roxanne Rossi.
Both shows will remain up in the lobby of the Buell (where Hair opens October 4) through January 1.
