LIDA and Control Group, together again

Categories: Backstage

It was always kinda, sorta meant to be, but late last week, the official announcement was made: The LIDA Project theater troupe led by Brian Freeland (a member of Westword's Mastermind class of 2009) and the Control Group Productions avant-garde dance ensemble led by Patrick Mueller are forming a partnership at LIDA's new space in the Laundry on Lawrence. Both spent some time in the last year hunting for new spaces (Control Group helped LIDA bid its old BINDERY | space location farewell with a wild finale); it took both organizations a while to find exactly what worked. To explain, Mueller offers this self-conducted interview:

What is this new space, anyway?  Well, we haven't named it yet (that's YOUR job, at the above-mentioned party!).  It's part of Wazee Union's new project, The Laundry, on Lawrence and 27th in the heart of the RiNo (River North) Arts District. What does this new partnership MEAN?  In the greater scheme of things, perhaps it indicates the first stage of progress toward a utopic society?  For the local arts scene, we pretty sure that's true.

No, but seriously, what does it mean for Control Group, LIDA, the Packing House, etc.?  Basically, it means all the awesomeness in one place.  Control Group, in close partnership with LIDA, will continue to offer the programming you know and love from PHCA 1.0, and both companies will be in permanent residence at the venue.

How do I find out more?  Join us for the Grand Opening extravaganza at our new venue on Saturday Nov. 26.

How do I check out the new digs?
Seriously, join us for the Grand Opening extravaganza.

How do I burn off Thanksgiving dinner, and entertain relatives who are staying over and driving me nuts?  Just get there!  We'll take care of the rest.

And who can resist a party under those circumstances? Check back with Show and Tell for more on this merger in the coming weeks.
