The wind beneath your wings! The Birds of Prey World Cup -- the only men's FIS World Cup alpine skiing event in the U.S. this year -- begins today at Beaver Creek, with the Men's Downhill competition beginning at 11 a.m. and a U.S. Ski Team autograph session tonight at 5 p.m. Tonight is also the 13th annual Black Diamond Ball at the Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa at Beaver Creek (126 Riverfront Lane Avon, CO 81620), benefiting the Vail Valley Foundation: To rub elbows with the 1%, some of whom paid as much as $25,000 to sponsor tables at the event, pony up $300 for a "Ruby" ticket. The World Cup races continue this weekend with the Men's Super G on Saturday at 11 a.m., and Giant Slalom on Sunday at 9:45 a.m. There will also be several events next week (originally scheduled to be held at Val d'Isere in France, where unseasonably warm weather forced a venue change), including Men's Giant Slalom on Tuesday at 9:45 a.m., Women's Super G on Wednesday at 11 a.m., and Men's Slalom on Thursday at 9:45 a.m.

More weekend stoke after the jump...

Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention: Not just for October! Keystone hosts the K2 Pink Chase on Saturday, an on-mountain scavenger hunt ($115 per person, $70 for pass holders) starting at 10 a.m. that will send teams of three racing all over the mountain "chasing down clues, solving puzzles, performing silly stunts, and chasing down the cure for breast cancer."

Redefine "dis"! Disabled Sports USA and Breckenridge Ski Resort are hosting the 24th annual Hartford Ski Spectacular, a winter sports festival for athletes with physical disabilities that opens on Sunday and runs through December 11. Check in at the Beaver Run Resort & Conference Center, 620 Village Road in Breckenridge, then get on the mountain for ski or snowboard lessons, Nordic and Biathlon ski clinics, race camps, sled hockey and wheelchair curling clinics, and vendor displays featuring the latest innovations in adaptive sports equipment. The main events, a Level I Race and Corporate Challenge Race, will be held on December 10.
