Video: Cirque du Soleil Dralion juggler visits Westword

It had been far too long since any literal juggling was done in the Westword conference room, so when the offer came down to see Cirque du Soleil Dralion juggler Vladik Miagkostupov perform in person, we welcomed it with open, uncoordinated arms.

Miagkostupov, 27, was born in Ukraine into a performing family -- both parents performed in the Moscow Circus and his professional career began at the age of four. Since then he's performed in more than thirty countries; he joined Cirque du Soleil in 2003.

He typically does eight shows a week. To relax, he plays music and spends time with his wife and one-year-old son. As you can see in this video, Miagkostupov comes off as calm and professional in person, likely a result of his years of doing media interviews and performances.

Our carpeted conference room was far from the strangest setting: Miagkostupov said he once performed on the floor of a glass-blowing shop for a group of lawyers. Then glass broke on the floor before his show -- which, of course, was for a group of lawyers. (You can find your own punchline.)

Dralion runs from Wednesday, February 8 through Sunday, February 12 at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield. The show will also be offered February 2 through February 5 in Loveland and will open February 22 in Colorado Springs.

Here is the trailer for Dralion, which is much better than our video, primarily because it doesn't include a whiteboard in the background.
