Taos Ski Valley tries to woo frustrated Coloradans from "barely ski-able" snow

Lack of snow getting you down? You're not alone -- and it just might be time for a field trip. You know your state's mountains are hurting for snow when you start getting e-mails like the one we just got from the PR folks at Taos Ski Valley in New Mexico:

"So, you spent hundreds of dollars on a ski pass and now it's junk because the slopes are barely ski-able. What's the point of living in the Rockies if we can't even have a good day skiing? Fear not dear snowlovers -- your problems are solved. If you have a ski pass to ANY Colorado resort, you can flash it at the ticket counter at Taos Ski Valley and get a $60 adult all-day lift ticket. Taos Ski Valley is having an epic year -- they've had more snow this season than almost any other place in the Rockies, and are boasting a 46 inch base, with more snow predicted for this week. You read that right: awesome conditions, expert runs open for all skiers and snowboarders, $60 lift tickets and only an afternoon's drive from Denver."

Yes, folks, things have gotten so desperate here in Colorado that our neighbors to the south think they can poach Denver skiers and snowboarders with a $15 lift ticket discount, and they just might be right: A 46-inch base is about twice what most Colorado ski areas are reporting this morning. Suddenly, that five-and-a-half-hour drive to Taos isn't looking so bad -- and the deal is good through March 25.

Taos isn't the only road trip worth taking, though. If you prefer to keep your ski dollars circulating in Colorado, we're happy to report that Wolf Creek Ski Area, just five hours from Denver, has even more snow, reporting 52 inches at midway and 57 inches at the summit as of this morning. Better yet? Wolf Creek's full-price adult lift tickets are only $54, and this Sunday is College Day, which means you can get yours for $33 with a valid college ID.
