The Beating Ski & Snowboard Film Fest.jpg
Beat down! In the Fall the ski and snowboard industry gets together in Aspen to screen all of the year's best snow porn at The Meeting Ski & Snowboard Film Festival. This isn't that. The Beating Ski & Snowboard Film Fest on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Grand Imperial in Silverton, 1219 Greene Street, is Silverton's answer to The Meeting, a battle of rough and tumble 5-minute amateur films presented by SOLRC, Freeskier Magazine, and Snowboard Magazine, benefiting Silverton Mountain's High School Scholarship Ski and Snowboard Program.

Shred 'Em All! Speaking of snowboard films, if you missed the premiere of the Never Summer Industries video Shred 'Em All this Fall on the occasion of the Denver-based snowboard company's 20th anniversary, catch up at NeverSummer.com, where each of the film's segments are now available to watch online for free.

Happy trails! Saturday is the 17th annual Winter Trails Day, with free snowshoeing and cross-country skiing events across the country. Your best bet locally is the snowshoe-only Winter Trails Day at Echo Lake Park (near Evergreen and the Echo Mountain ski area), with free snowshoe demos for adults and children courtesy of REI as well as guided hikes and snow activities.

Ullr's having a bad year this winter. Help cheer him up.
Pray for snow! If you're looking at all these winter events and wondering what happened to winter, it might be time to appease the gods. The town of Breckenridge hosts its 49th annual Ullr Fest all next week, paying tribute to the Norse god associated with skiing and winter. If old man Ullr really does have anything to do with bringing the snow, then he appears to be in a particularly stingy mood this year: Come prepared to party and see if you can help cheer him up. The festivities start on Sunday at 1 p.m. with a $5 Ullr Skating Party at Stephen C. West Ice Arena.
