Matt Toole offers iron performance and lecture at UCD
Toole, who's been casting iron since 1996, has been teaching art and sculpture for over eight years; he's currently based at the Savannah College of Art and Design. "I'm very lucky to be able to do what I love for living," he says, "and I get the opportunity to travel all over the world -- even to Ireland later this month as a keynote speaker. I feel very appreciative."
Following his lecture tonight, he'll be collaborating with students tomorrow on a live iron pour, creating objects and sculptures in front of an audience, with a lever and full mechanism he designed with the class.
"I just really love interacting with the students because the process requires teamwork," he explains, "and the cultivation of the art has spawned an entire subculture that desires to experiment with metal, which is great."
Tonight's lecture will be at 6:30 p.m. in the King Center recital hall. The live iron performance will run from 7 to 10 p.m. tomorrow in the arts building loading area. Both events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact email@example.com.
