Juliet Wittman raved about Miss Julie, Paragon Theatre's opening production in its brand-new home, a specially constructed black-box theater.

As it turns out, this will also be Paragon's last production...ever.

This e-mail just arrived from Paragon this morning:

Dear Paragon Patron,

It is with great sorrow that Paragon Theatre announces its permanent closure on March 18, 2012 after the run of its current show, Miss Julie.

For 11 years Paragon has strived to provide the Denver metro community with the most honest, intimate, and bold stories told on stage. After realizing the decade-long dream of operating the company's own space, Paragon has encountered numerous unforeseen code and permit challenges, which have put excessive strain on the company's financial reserves. Paragon's dedicated volunteer ensemble of actors, directors, designers, and producers have determined that maintaining a sustainable organization has become too great a burden for Paragon to shoulder without amassing significant debt. Additionally, while the demands of managing the facility have increased, our limited personnel resources have remained the same, making it impossible to maintain our ensemble model of artistic excellence with an affordable ticket price. It has been determined that the inevitable course of action in order to preserve the integrity of Paragon and its core values is to close the company.

Paragon's closing will be the final bold staging in its gracious and lucky history in Denver. Paragon wishes to exit the scene gracefully, with the utmost respect and gratitude to the Denver theatre community, its patrons, its donors, and its extended family of volunteers and supporters.

The ensemble, board and company members wish to sincerely thank each and every patron, donor and volunteer for their dedication to this idea of ensemble theatre. We appreciate your understanding during this very painful and challenging task of closing this entity to which so many have devoted so much time, energy, and financial support. We are proud to have been a part of Denver's theatrical history.

Respectfully,

Paragon Theatre
