The sun may not break through all the smoke in the air from the Jefferson County wildfires today, but "Solar for a Small Planet," a free program at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science tonight, will shine a light on how solar helps power low-income communities around the world.

Colorado solar leaders who have brought solar-powered light, heat and power to Nepal, Namibia and the Navajo nation will discuss their projects; Blake Jones, CEO of Namaste Solar, which was touted early on by President Barack Obama, will be among the presenters.

"Coloradans are international leaders in solar technology and innovations developed here are making a big difference all over the world," says Neal Lurie, executive director of the Colorado Solar Energies Association, which is presenting the program along with the DMNS and Greenprint Denver. "Solar for a Small Planet will help all of us better understand these connections."

The presentation starts at 6:30 p.m. in Ricketson Auditorium at the museum, 2001 Colorado Boulevard; although the event is free, online registration is required at http://denversolar.eventbrite.com/.
