Residue Denver: Artists act out at Edge Gallery
We're used to gallery shows that look pretty much the same when they end as when they began. But Residue Denver, opening tonight at Edge Gallery, isn't designed to remain static. Though the juried group show will begin with a variety of sculptural objects scattered around the space, five or six artists will present an interactive "performance" around each of their pieces, leaving them altered in some way, every Friday for a month.
Tonight between 6 and 10 p.m., the lineup includes Daniel Nilsson and Rachael Hamilton, Shoot 2: The Sequel, at 6:15 p.m; Estee Fox, Between, at 6:30 p.m.; Morgan Murphy, Retinue, at 6:45 p.m.; Mark Shroyer, A Very Important Football Game, at 7 p.m.; Jessica Johnson, Flowers, 8 p.m.; and Kendra Penney, Three Holes, at 8:30 p.m.
Changing programs continue at the same time each Friday through June 15; one of those, Isolation Box, will involve artist Daniel Nilsson and a "friend" living together in a small, reflective box for a week, starting at the June 8 event.
This is one show you'll want to see again and again. Prepare to be surprised, shocked, amused and quite possibly blown away.
