The spirit of Taos Contemporary brightens the Center for Visual Art
When we think of the art of Taos, the first image we usually conjure up is the landscape, colored in the tones of the mountain Southwest. Yet that's not what all Taos art turns out to be, especially in contemporary times, as artists continue to flock to northern New Mexico to tune out of the status quo, to loosen up and create outside the constraints of the business-driven urban art world.

It's this art that will be explored in Taos Contemporary, a large group show opening tonight at the Metropolitan State College of Denver's Center for Visual Art. The spirit, if not the look, of influential artists like Georgia O'Keeffe might anchor a show such as this, but the modern work stands on its own.
