The hoopla at the Denver Art Museum this summer is mostly focused on fashion and Yves St. Laurent. But another small show, Abstract Angus, featuring works by contemporary Western painter Theodore Waddell, opened at the DAM over the weekend, offering museum-goers a completely different artistic point of view. The show shines a light on the artist's painterly, expressionistic technique, which is a far cry from the meticulous Western works folks are used to seeing in the museum's Western Art Galleries.

If you find the Montana-based painter's style interesting, Visions West Gallery in LoDo is presenting a companion exhibit, Landspace, which opens today.

Abstract Angus remains on view at the DAM through December 2, while Landspace closes much sooner, on July 7; for details, visit the DAM website or go to Visions West online.
