Woodward at Copper guarantees snow for summer camp, adds mountain bike camps
Not ready to let go of the ski/snowboard dream and put that crummy snow season behind you, even weeks after all the resorts have closed? Neither are the coaches at Woodward at Copper, where they're gearing up for summer camps -- and guaranteeing an on-snow experience.

"Believe it or not, the snow is actually looking great for our summer ski and snowboard camp sessions," says Woodward at Copper spokeswoman Erica Pedersen. "We're building up towards kids arriving and pushing a lot of snow around."
Don't believe it? Here's a clip of Jason George -- designer of Westword's Best of Denver 2012 Best Terrain Park -- pushing some of that snow around to make it all happen.
"We've got a full schedule of indoor/outdoor ski and snowboard camps, skateboard camps, digital media camps, a camp experience for adults and, new this year, a freeride mountain bike camp with pro rider Sasha Yakovleff," Pedersen says. "Woodward at Copper is the perfect place to come up and learn some new tricks."
Think summer camp is just for the minor threats? Think again: The first of the ski/snowboard camp sessions, June 12-16, is strictly for grown-ups, ages 18+. Full-week sessions for kids 10+ run from June 17-July 28, and there's a grom session for kids 8-12 from July 29-August 1. There are also skateboard camps from July 1-28 on the bowls and ramps in the Woodward at Copper Barn (ages 10+ with one 8-12 grom session), and the new mountain bike camp session will run from July 7-28. Digital media camps for budding adventure photographers and filmmakers ages 13+ will run from July 1-28.
"The digital media campers will be learning right alongside the skiers and snowboarders and mountain bikers up on the hill, filming all the pros and the campers," Pedersen says. "We've got great filming and editing equipment for them to learn on, and it's become one of our most popular camps."

In addition to being schooled by the Woodward at Copper coaching staff, you just might learn from some of your favorite pros: "We try to get different sponsors for each week, so the campers will get exposed to different guest coaches, contests and giveaways depending on the session," Pedersen says. Session sponsors include some local crews: The Angry Snowboarder blog is backing Session #1, Never Summer Industries and Pat Milbery's So-Gnar crew are all over Session #2, Sims Snowboards is sponsoring Session #6, and Icelantic is running Session #7.
"I'm really stoked we're doing a full takeover session this year," says Milbery, an expert in the art of stoke (So-Gnar is a co-presenter of Snowboard on the Rocks, a Westword Best of Denver 2012 winner for Best Way to Get Stoked for the Season.) "We'll be doing on-snow clinics during the day and hosting some art and skateboard design clinics in the evenings, and we have all kinds of wackiness planned, like So-Gnar water wars in the bumper boats and a big BBQ at The Barn with Coalatree Organics."

Other visiting pros on the schedule for the summer include Erika Vikander, Ian Compton, Garrett Russell, Spencer Link, Nick Sibayan, Tim Durtschi, Forest Bailey, Colby Albino, Bryan Daino, Jeremy Brown, Jaron Stadler, Mason Aguirre and Gretchen Bleiler.
"We rebuilt all of our park features this past winter and have some great things in store for all of our summer campers," Pedersen says. For the full camp schedule and prices, visit WoodwardAtCopper.com. The Barn is also open for daily drop-in sessions from June 9-July 29.
