Talk about the weather with Bill Nye the Science Guy and friends at the Boulder Theater

Bill Nye the Science Guy.
You know that when the Lunar and Planetary Institute holds a conference in Boulder on the Comparative Climatology of Terrestrial Planets, the subject matter is bound to be a bit arcane for the rest of us.

But the idea of the confab -- a discussion of climate change here on Earth, and how it relates to what's going on in the atmospheres of other planets -- is fascinating, and it just might help us think better of our present heat wave. In comparison, that is, to what we might encounter on Mercury or Jupiter. (Roiling clouds of poisonous gasses, anyone?)

To that end, the conference is opening up to the public its plebe-friendly keynote, "Climate Change on Earth and Other Planets," which features none other than articulate and funny TV science nerd Bill Nye. The show starts at 8 p.m. tonight at the Boulder Theater.

Joining Nye for a panel following the keynote will be Denver Museum of Nature and Science astrobiologist David Grinspoon, an entertaining speaker in his own right, along with Jim Hansen of the Goddard Institute for Space Studies and Brian Toon of the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics. Nye will moderate and questions will be taken from the audience. We guarantee that when you leave, you'll know way more than when you arrived.

Admission is $10; for tickets and information go to the Boulder Theater website. If you can't make it tonight, check Show and Tell tomorrow morning for a recap...and maybe even an answer to our own question.
