Tonight at St. Mark's: Outdoor movies in a different vein

DUFF outdoor.jpg
You like the idea of those outdoor screenings where folks lounge around on lawn chairs and watch movies under the stars, but you're not so thrilled with the usual titles, which are mostly family-friendly second-runs of the lowest common denominator, or cult favorites you've seen hundreds of times. But now, thanks to the Denver Underground Film Festival, films for grown-ups -- serious experimental and narrative shorts and feature films by independent filmmakers -- will be hitting a wall near you.

DUFF's Outdoor Independent Film Series kicks off tonight outside St. Mark's Coffeehouse, featuring one-of-a-kind short works from across the nation and around the world. Subject matter covers everything from a journaling highway flagger to an obsessive record collector, with journeys into silent film, comedy, small epiphanies and soccer along the way. Pull up your blanket at 8 p.m. for the evening's free screenings.

For a complete schedule of the first two Wednesdays of the Denver Underground Film Festival, visit the Facebook event page or DUFF's website; programs will continue throughout the summer on every first and third Wednesday of the month.
