On such a lovely, long, almost-summer day, you should be out under the sun and the stars. The additional promise of visual surprises behind every wide-open door awaits at the Summer Solstice Celebration in the Navajo Street Art District, which runs Saturday, June 16 from noon to 9 p.m.

This harmonic convergence of good karma (it's also a kickoff for Festival 38, a community fair to take place along nearby 38th Avenue on August 4) includes open houses at the Bug Theatre and district galleries, craft and vendor booths, and in the evening, the opening reception for Zip POP!, a pop-art themed group show juried by Denver art-collecting diva Dana Cain at Zip 37 Gallery. And anyone who knows Cain also understands that staging a pop-art show is her dream gig.

Also in the Navajo Street galleries, Edge's Residue Denver performance art show will be wrapping up with the finale of Daniel Nilsson's Isolation Box #2 experiment, co-op godfather Phil Bender's show will be closing at Pirate, and Next Gallery features works by Candace Shepard and Marilyn Schidt. For general information visit the Navajo Street Art District website, or find Zip 37 online for more about Zip POP!
