Ten things to do for $10 this weekend, June 8-10, 2012
re(production) at Naropa University (Saturday, free)
With reproductive freedom being threatened yet again in the political arena, it's fitting that theater troupe Band of Toughs will explore these issues on the stage at this dramatic reading. The play re(production), written by Stephen Wangh, co-author of The Laramie Project, has been through various drafts over the past year, and in this another incarnation of the script the company will explore the meaning of choice in reproduction. Go up to Boulder to see an artistic, thoughtful discussion of the issue that old men in politics seem obsessed with controlling.
Get Outdoors Day Colorado at City Park (Saturday, free)
There are plenty of cost-free, active events at this big outdoor party at City Park today, from kayaking on the lake to rock climbing, to Zumba and mountain biking. Get some exercise at one of the activities, and then enjoy food from one of the many food trucks at the event.
Exquisite Corpse: End to End at GroundSwell Gallery (Saturday, free)
The idea for the Exquisite Corpse comes from the Surrealists: artists create a sequence of work and don't know quite how it's going to fit together until the end. This is sure to make an interesting exhibition at GroundSwell as the parts of the piece are finally assembled for the grand unveiling at this art reception tonight. Come see a bizarre sequence of illustrations as they are joined together tonight.
Etsy Crafting Party: Bonjour Paris at Denver Central Library (Sunday, free)
Ooh la la--things are getting French today at the Denver Central Library, with Fresh City Life's Paris-themed Etsy Crafting Party. From roasting chestnuts to French-inspired Shrinky Dink jewelry, you can make a variety of francophile crafts to get in the spirit of the Paris on the Platte theme. After the party, be sure to stroll down the street in your freshly-crafted finery and pretend you're walking along the Champs-Elysées instead of Colfax.
Girl Walk // All Day at the Denver FilmCenter/Colfax (Sunday, $10)
The Denver FilmCenter/Colfax is throwing a dance party slash Westword Music Festival kickoff tonight, and it all starts at 9 p.m. with drink specials. There will be dancing before, during, and after the screening of the feature-length dance music video Girl Walk // All Day, which features three dancers prancing around New York City while the mash up dance hits of Girl Talk play. Be sure to wear some comfortable shoes, because you'll definitely be inspired to jump to your feet at this toe-tapping event.
