The Clyfford Still Museum and Swallow Hill Music Association are teaming up to bring art enthusiasts and music lovers two free lawn concerts this summer, starting this Friday, July 6. FaceMan and Rubedo will provide the entertainment at the inaugural event.

FaceMan
Faceman is a four-artist, Denver-based band, known for the anonymity of its lead singer/guitarist and use of odd video clips during performances. The act released its second full-length album, FeedingTime, in February at the Bluebird Theater. Rubedo, whose music is often referred to as psychedelic alchemical pop rock, describes itself as "the physical manifestation of sound streaming from the psyche of its members."

The second concert, slated for Friday, August 3, features the Grant Gordy Quartet with Kyle James Hauser, both Denver-based acts. Gordy is a well-known acoustic guitarist, while Hauser is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter, who specializes in the banjo.

Victoria Eastburn, the museum's director of education and programs, says the Still museum is excited to partner with Swallow Hill, calling it "a wonderful opportunity to participate in Denver's culture of outdoor summer music and engage new audiences through collaboration."

The lawn concerts in the forecourt of the building relate to the museum's summer theme of "Movement, Music, and Modernism," she notes: "Through gallery talks, lectures and performances, we are investigating ideas central to the work of Clyfford Still, abstract expressionism and the cultural landscape following World War II." Clyfford Stills's independent spirit that pushed the boundaries of his medium was not unlike the motivations of artists and independent musicians working in Denver today, she adds.

Biker Jim's Gourmet Dogs food truck will be stationed near the museum on July 6, offering a wide selection of hot dogs and other treats, while the Street Eats food truck will provide the grub on August 3.

Both concerts start at 5:30 p.m. For more information, visit the Clifford Still web site.
