After you do your artistic duty for the Denver Art Museum's Open for Design project, consider entering the second annual Inventor Art Competition -- a graphic precursor for the 2012 DaVinci Inventor Showcase.

"We think the convergence of Denver's new Patent Office and the area's growing culture of innovation will give rise to a new global image for Denver, and we hope the Inventor Art Competition can help serve as a catalyst for making that happen," says Thomas Frey, executive director of the DaVinci Institute.

The theme of this competition: inventors with their great inventions or innovations.

The winning work of art will become the official focal image for the 2012 DaVinci Inventor Showcase on October 13. Last year, Boulder artist Tyler Voorhees took top honors, winning Best of Show for his submission, "The Lamplighter" (shown above).

Deadline for submissions is July 31; the judging will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. on Monday, August 6, with an artists' reception following at the DaVinci Institute.
