Say yes to the...purse with Denver Pavilion's new series Style Strike
Every heard of Extreme Makeover? How about Say Yes to the Dress? Well, the Denver Pavilions debuts its own series tomorrow from noon to one in the plaza. With the tagline "If you don't like it...STRIKE IT!," Style Strike replaces outdated accessories with new, trendy items hand-picked by style host Samuel Schimek for a few lucky audience members. Every Wednesday starting July 11 through August 15 everyone is welcome to register an old accessory corresponding to the weekly category at 11:30 a.m. Participants may also randomly receive a $25 mystery gift card or be asked to say the tagline on film! You have nothing to lose but items worth up to $200 to win, so take a lunch break and learn about fashion at 16th Street Mall with Style Strike.
"We wanted to do a fun show about some of the things you're not in love with anymore, from an accessory standpoint," says Wendy Manning of Denver Pavilions. "Our objective is to remind people that we are a fashion resource for them. There's more than H&M here. There's boutiques and other stores, and we're here to help them out too. It's just a fun way to remind people that we have all of these fun fashions downtown without being over sales-y, so we want to have an educational component with styles and things that are trending now."
Here's how it works: Participants over 18 register and sign a waiver agreeing to being filmed. Kids under 18 require the signature of a parent or guardian. "We have an interview sheet to assess their fashion problem, then we'll probably pull the biggest need or coolest look for the actual filming at noon," says Schimek. Then he'll select an appropriate accessory from the "style wall" right there in front of the audience.
"Each week we have a different target accessory item," explains Schimek. "Tomorrow it's bags and briefcases, so we'll be asking people what their work is like to find the people with the most fashion need in the workplace. We've got a big style wall with trends and items based on the category. We're picking things up from a range of stores. Tomorrow I know we have things from Banana Republic, Express, GAP and Forever 21. They might win a $50 bag up to a $200 bag." Plus, the lucky winners get to keep their striked items and return home with a new fashion. Some audience members may also be asked to do an on-camera interview about their unwanted accessory.
Here's what to bring each week:
purse and/or briefcase
belt and/or scarf
necklace and/or neck tie
hat and/or headband
cologne and/or perfume
clutch and/or messenger bag
"We suggest for anyone in the area having lunch to check it out," encourages Schimek. "We're giving away gift cards!"
