10 things to do for $10 this weekend, August 10-12, 2012
It's easy to spend a summer wasting away inside, with the air-conditioning cranked high. But even though it's easy, that doesn't mean it's right. Denver is full of great events this weekend that are cheap and cool -- in spirit, if not in actual temperature. From films made in just 48 hours to trunk shows and bizarre bazaars, you're sure to find a reason to peel yourself off the couch and get out there. Dark Horse at the Denver FilmCenter/Colfax (Friday-Sunday, $9.75)
In the brilliant Welcome to the Dollhouse, writer/director Todd Solondz explored the intense awkwardness and ridiculousness of being an adolescent girl. His new film, Dark Horse, explores the weirdness of another character: Abe (Jordan Gelber) is a thirty-something man who attempts to court and marry Miranda, played by Selma Blair. If it's anything like his past films, it's sure to be equal parts heartfelt and darkly humorous -- and its definitely one to see on the big screen.
