Boulder cyclist Tejay van Garderen wins Stage 2 of USA Pro Challenge
Fans rooting for a local in the USA Pro Challenge got their wish yesterday when Tejay van Garderen, a 24-year-old rider who now lives and trains in Boulder, won Stage 2 of the USA Pro Challenge. Van Garderen rode 99 miles from Montrose to Crested Butte in three hours, 52 minutes and 24 seconds.
USAProCyclingChallenge.com Tejay van Garderen won Stage 2 and took the overall lead in the USA Pro Challenge on Tuesday.
His overall time of 8:35:12 after Stage 2 puts him into the lead on the six-stage race, which picks up today with a route from Gunnison to Aspen.
Levi Leipheimer, the American who won the Crested Butte stage in 2011 and went on to win the overall race last year, finished in fourth place and is currently fourth overall.
