Teamwork entwines five solo shows at Core New Art Space
The quintet of new exhibits now up at Core New Art Space veer a bit from the usual Core show construction: Four Core members, all friends and neighbors in the Fresh Art Studios located in the hallways behind the gallery, will share the main gallery that's usually devoted to just two artists, and the work of a former member fills the annex.

But in spite of the busy variety of mediums and styles being displayed, the artists became aware of a kind of interlocking artistic Gestalt -- a patchwork of subtle differences and similarities -- at work as they hung the show.
The shapes in Terri Bell's Japanese-flavored mixed media echo the geometric contours of Meg Voigt-Meersman's oils, while Lokken Liane's bright watercolors bounce off the weathered pastel and jewel-toned hues of Katie Hoffman's paintings. Through it all, Jon Koenigsbeg's floating, Calderesque sculptures drift through the air. See for yourself at the reception, 6 to 9 p.m. tonight, or visit Core through September 9.
