If you were at the Denver County Fair in August, you might have caught a steampunk vibe in the air -- thanks to the amassed presence of the Colorado Steampunks and the Denver Victoriana & Steampunk Society, all decked out in their beautiful costumes.

Among their ranks were world travelers Mary Lin and Ben Sargent of Luminous Thread Productions, who've now settled in Denver, bringing with them a unique brand of performance that blends opera and classical song, cabaret, elegant staging, circus elements and a steampunk sensibility.

Lin, Sargent and cohorts were at the fair promoting their first season here, to be produced under the banner of "Dreampunk." It will begin around Halloween with Nuptials for the Dead, a visually rich program of romantic art songs, which will be followed by two very different productions: Cabaret Flambé -- End Times at Le Chat Noir and the steampunk opera Queen Victoria's Floating Garden of Secrets and Natural Wonders.

You get the picture -- this is a kind of musical theater we haven't really seen in these parts. Costumes and talent don't come cheaply, though, and to that end, the company launched a Kickstarter campaign on Tuesday, in hopes of raising $5,000 by October 9. Here's a look at their promo video, which eloquently explains the Luminous Thread concept.

The show must go on. Visit the Kickstarter page to study the donation perks and to throw some coin into the can; for more information visit Luminous Thread online.
