Since rent is due today, you might be foraging for food for the next few days. But you don't have to skimp on fun! In 3 for free, we feature several weekday events that are -- you guessed it -- absolutely free. From spending a day wandering the Denver Botanic Gardens to visiting a traveling van full of zines to escaping into a film world ruled by apes, these experiences promise to be rich....no matter how poor your bank balance looks.

For a full calendar of events, visit the online Westword calendar. And if you know of other great free events this week, share them in the comments section below.

Free Day at the Denver Botanic Gardens (Monday)
Though you normally have to fork over $12.50 to wander the beautiful grounds of the Denver Botanic Gardens, today is one of those magical free days where you can go for no cost at all. See the bamboo/sculpture installation Kizuna: West Meets East before it leaves next month and appreciate the fall colors that are now out in full force.

Escape from the Planet of the Apes at the Denver Central Library B2 Conference Center (Tuesday)
For the month of October, the Denver Public Library's Fresh City Life is exploring campy sci-fi films. Screenwriter/film professor Darren Foster has curated a five-film series titled "Almost Midnight: Camp Cult Sci-Fi Classics" that kicks off tonight with the cheesy 1971 Planet of the Apes sequel, Escape from the Planet of the Apes . Watch the film, laugh at the corny ape costumes, and cherish the fact that you live in a world not ruled by monkeys. Yet.

Fly Away Zine Mobile at the Denver Zine Library (Thursday)
The Fly Away Zine Mobile is rolling into town today, bringing 1,500 zines housed in a Chevy Astro Van that will park at the Denver Zine Library. That's where you'll be able to browse the collection -- how-to guides to comics, poetry, zines written by prisoners -- and hear some zinesters read their work. You can even play with the musical instruments housed in the van. Celebrate the DIY spirit and have some fun yourself.
