Minor Disturbance Open Mic at Hooked on Colfax (Wednesday)
Though there are many open mic nights in this city, Minor Disturbance is introducing the only youth-focused one in town at Hooked on Colfax. Musicians, poets, and comedians will perform at this first-ever event that will continue weekly; the inaugural edition will feature slam poetry by local hero Suzi Q. Smith. See some exciting performance art, get a latte (not free) from Hooked on Colfax, and celebrate a new platform for young voices.

The Honey Cooler at the Hi-Dive (Wednesday)
Free movies are always fun, and even more fun when they celebrate hometown talent. Denver personality Sid Pink will star in The Honey Cooler, a farce noir film from Gaylord Street Films about a washed-up private detective. See the film -- and its star -- tonight, and support local cinema.

Gabriel García Márquez Cultural Week at the Auraria Campus (Wednesday-Thursday)
Gabriel García Márquez, a master of magical realism, turns 85 this year, and in celebration the University of Colorado Denver, the Denver Public Library and the Hispanic Heritage Center are hosting a series of Márquez-related events this week. Wednesday includes public readings, lectures and a screening of Gabriel García Márquez: Magic and Reality, while Thursday will feature screenings of O veneno da madrugada, Del amor y otros demonios and a lecture about the writer's classic One Hundred Years of Solitude. It promises to be a magical series.
