Katt Williams melts down on stage, threatens and spits on a fan

Other than the hat, this man in no way resembles the wreck of Katt Williams I saw last night.
I can't imagine that I was the only one who felt trapped by the mania of Katt Williams as I sat inside the less-than-half-full Wells Fargo Theatre last night. The first of two Denver shows on his Ghetto National Convention Tour, this was a car wreck from the start. From the late start of the show -- tickets said 8 p.m., but a very disorganized collection of six opening comedians didn't get started until well after 9 p.m. -- to Williams' Jekyll & Hyde personality conversion when he finally took the stage almost two hours later, the night was badly off-course. And Katt was not in control. Whether he was high or anxious or angry or affected or all of those things combined, everyone in the theater -- although many had left by then -- saw a very public wreck.

I'd been so excited to see this man perform live for the first time in my life, and it was clear that my fellow audience members were feeling that way, too. Couples were dressed up, gaggles of girlfriends were sipping beer and wine, and the early arrivals were sitting back in the theater, enjoying the opening DJs as the rest of the crowd found seats.

Introduced as "Big Pussy," Williams came out in a cowboy hat and floor-length fur coat, which dropped to reveal a neck of gold chains. Apparently, this "Big Pussy" routine was an alternate persona for the comedian, but nothing seemed different from the little pimp his fans know well. In fact, during the few moments this alter-ego regaled us with commentary on the upcoming election, Williams's signature smart-ass style shone through. During these few moments, he started parading through the crowd, which seemed all in good fun.

But our time with Big Pussy was just a short and sweet primer for Gina Yashere, the first in a downhill toss of opening acts. The British-born comedian was good, but she wasn't Katt. And it was clear that the crowd had come for Katt.

Yashere bagged on the crumbling American healthcare system, Americans' addiction to prescription medication and other things America did wrong in general. Her "fucks this"s and "fuck that"s quickly became grating, but her time was thankfully limited. I thought we were going to get Katt back to the stage -- and we did, but only for a minute.

Big Pussy reappeared briefly to introduce John Witherspoon -- famous to most for his role of Mr. Jones, Ice Cube's father in the Friday series. Witherspoon spent the first several minutes of his routine reprising his famed Friday role, dropping all of his signature lines and crude gestures.

It was entertaining, sort of, but it wasn't Katt, and there was a growing feeling that no one was really driving this bus. The show was under way, but where it was going was unclear.

Comedian Cortney Gee followed, and many in the audience took this opportunity to head back up the mountainous stairs to the bar. Ten minutes of mediocre jokes followed before Katt reappeared again as Big Pussy, announcing a very unnecessary "fifteen minute intermission." This was when the road really got bumpy.

A good thirty minutes later, two more comedians were thrown to the wolves, and the audience was now audibly wondering if Willams was ever going to take the stage. Finally, around 10:50 p.m., the fuckery appeared to have come to an end, and Katt returned dressed as, from what I could tell, himself, trailing a cloud of his signature weed smoke.

But the man who stood in front of us was a mess. He paced the stage, sweating and singing, rapping in mumbles to the song booming overhead, facing what was left of the raucous crowd. He ripped his shirt off, did some stunt-like push-ups and more pacing, pouring water all over his face and body.

Katt took me onstage w/ him Friday night after picking my bike cab up outside his hotel. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing. He was professional and clear to me amid crazy pressure backstage and was good to his word, he paid exactly what he promised. He sent me to get a posse of 5 other cabs and met us just as he had said.

Y'all are wrong to call this a meltdown. Katt Williams is an amazing performer and I have a ton of respect for him.

Check this video I took on stage!!!

He was a G too. Friendly to his fans, and he was rolling with Suge Knight

Once again ticketmaster is still unsure if they are giving out refunds. I know it is a shitty situation but please keep your tickets!! If ticketmaster decides to do refunds you will need your ticket in order to get one.

Who are you or anybody else to say what his mental or emotional stability is. Are you his mental health professional? People are so quick to judge and try to sour a person and why. it is funny how this always seems to happen. Well what if were you would you like people calling your crazy or unstable. I believe not. Don't you have enough problems of your own to be worried about somebody else? Seriously the freedom of speech thing goes too far but it seems to only really apply to people like YOU who want to make judgements and dog a celebrity. Denver be serious...

I really wanted to go to this!  $80 was the cheapest ticket and since I had already spent $100 on the terrible Madonna show I decided not to go.  THANK GOD!

I'm really frustrated.  I spent a lot of money to see opening acts and really long breaks with crappy DJs.  No refunds... what a joke!

I totally agree with this review!!!  These accounts were spot on, however, the only missing piece would be... Did this audience get there money back???  Well i just got off the phone with ticketmaster and the answer is NO.  Katt peeps i guess are refusing to refund anything.  All i was told is that "its Katt Williams what did u expect...   I feel double screwed :(

Krack Williams had a similar drug-fueled melt-down at a show in Albuquerque. At least Richard Pryor was still doing funny stuff when he was cracked-out.

Looks like he and Charlie Sheen should do a tour: The Public Train Wreck Tour.

Dam how about acting like a professional? Goes to show we truly don’t know any of our celebrities and not all of them are role models. You’re gonna tell me its the first time as a comedian you’ve ever been heckled?? No its not nice however you have to have the police stop you from attacking the guy? No/low class. Just like this upcoming election I think if you don’t vote I don’t want to hear you complain... that dude voted with his $$$ and that’s how you treat the people who are paying your rent??? Check yourself before you wreck yourself. When you don’t respect your fan base like Madonna did in her Denver concert what do you expect? If Kat was a professional he’d do his set, if he had class he’d stay after the show and take pics or sign things for his true fans showing them the love they show him. After all they could be doing so many other things and spending there $ in so many other ways in this tough and hard economy.

Just so everyone knows, ticketmaster still has not said if they will be giving a refund. So everyone hold on to your tickets and keep them safe. You can only get a refund if you have a ticket.

@debrad1000 TicketMaster said that the promoters said they are not issuing a refund Because HE DID PERFORM Ticketmaster also said as long as he takes the stage then he has fulfilled his obligation! So there are no refunds being issued! There is no set time for him to perform so if he came on and did the shit that he did in denver then as far as they are concerned he performed! ridiculous!!

@msreason Denver be serious?? Are you kidding me?? There were A LOT of people who paid their hard earned money to see this clown perform and he shorted them (and not for the first time apparently). Just as you stated he is a celebrity, it's his job to perform and THAT is what people paid for, not to see some psycho run around stage and try to fight everyone in sight. People aren't being judgemental, they're going off of what they saw with their own eyes. No one made Katt Williams act the way he did that night. He did that himself. "Don't you have enough problems of your own to be worried about?"... YES! Clearly you weren't one who spent over $300 to see this embarrassment so you don't realize how ignorant you sound. THAT'S MY PROBLEM!! People just want what they paid for.

@Read Except for moronic hecklers ruining the show, everything went the same on friday night. The Thursday show was going to plan, the hecklers ruined it. On Friday he made the same confrontational performances earlier in the show but went on to do a solid two hours of stand up. Maybe you just dont "get it"
