Instead of staring into the empty abyss of your wallet, get out of the house and have some fun for free. From listening to a lecture by an esteemed art critic to watching a 35mm film to ice-skating in your pajamas, there are plenty of options out there. Look at the online Westword calendar for more events, and share info on other bargain entertainment in the comments section.

Paddy Johnson Public Lecture "The Ethics of Critique" at the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design (Tuesday)
The Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design's Visiting Artist, Scholar & Designer Program brings esteemed art-world guests to the college. Up tonight: Paddy Johnson, writer and founding editor of art critique blog Art Fag City, who'll give a free public lecture on the ethics of critique. Make sure you get a spot by reserving seats ahead of time online.

Antonia's Line at Muenzinger Auditorium (Wednesday)
With 35mm films becoming a rarity, it's a special treat to see a classic on the big screen in a non-digital format. The CU International Film Series will screen this 1995 Belgian masterpiece tonight on actual film -- with producer Margaret Matheson in person. Antonia's Line follows the lives of the members of a matriarchal family in post-World War II, combining feminist themes in a lovely, refreshingly different family story.

Ice skating at Southwest Rink at Skyline Park (Thursday)
Downtown's ice-skating season is almost over (in fact, the last day for the rink will be Valentine's Day), so it's time to lace up. Today skating will be free for anyone who comes to Southwest Rink dressed in pajamas; skate-rental proceeds will be donated to Denver's Road Home. Put on your prettiest warm PJs, skate away the day and help the homeless in the process.
