The Deleted City at Counterpath (Friday, free)
Nostalgic for the flashy cursors and bizarre personal websites that existed on now-defunct web host Geocities? Amsterdam's Richard Vijgen undertook the massive project of archiving those sites and depicting them as a city map, so you can zoom in on Internet ghost towns. His installation opens tonight at Counterpath.
The Couch at Voodoo Comedy Playhouse (Friday, $5)
Psychological help has never been as funny as it is every fourth Friday at Voodoo Comedy Playhouse. This improvised psych-ward session has a special guest work out all of his or her deep-seated psychological issues on the couch with three different therapists, using talk therapy for comic relief.
The Place Beyond the Pines at Muenzinger Auditorium (Friday, free)
You'll have to arrive early for this free screening of the new movie from Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance, but it will definitely be worth it. Cianfrance will be in person to introduce and talk about new father-and-son film starring Ryan Gosling. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and seating is first come, first served.
Staff Training Day films at Alamo Drafthouse (Friday-Sunday, $2)
Before its grand opening on Monday, the Alamo Drafthouse's soft opening this weekend will feature a great bargain while the staff is training: $2 movies. Check out the new theater and see films like Flight, Zero Dark Thirty, Ghostbusters and more for an incredibly low price.
South Broadway Grand Opening Party at The Concoctory (Saturday, free)
The intersection of Broadway and Evans will light up tonight for the grand opening of two new shops: The Concoctory Creativity Shoppe and Cafe Crescendo. Celebrate the opening of these additions to the neighborhood by eating from food trucks, participating in a scavenger hunt, catching music by Caatinga Blues and Sara Century, and experiencing the highlight of the evening: lightning from a real life Tesla coil.
