Writer, critic and colorful Algonquin Round Table yakker Dorothy Parker was really born to be a character in a play; known in her heyday for her caustic tongue and running witticisms, she left behind a diverse body of work, from comic poems to Hollywood scripts. And her life story was epic, from her beginnings as a brainy literary ingenue to a later life marked by activism and blacklists.

Playwright Anne Welsbacher met the challenge of compiling the details and detritus of Parker's life into Pardon My Dust, a play making its regional premiere tonight in a production presented by the woman-centric theater company And Toto too. ATT founder Susan Lyles directs, and it's a tour de force role for one of Denver's finest actors: the versatile Billie McBride, who will be called upon to portray the wicked wit throughout her career.
