You really don't have to celebrate Mother's Day like everyone else. Modern moms are an independent bunch, and they may not want to spend their big day knitting by the hearth or enjoying whatever stereotypical pastime they're supposed to prefer. Moms just aren't like that anymore. Following are five places where you can take your fierce, witty, sassy, life-loving mom -- or just shop for her.

Beads on the Bus will roll into the spring Horseshoe Market.
Horseshoe Craft and Flea Market
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 11, free
Moore Olinger Howard Chapel parking lot

The Horseshoe is a perennial Best of Denver favorite -- it's been our Best Flea Market for three years running and only seems to get better each year. And when the market returns each spring, like rain clouds and crabapple blossoms and the swallows of Capistrano, it's cause to kick up your heels and go. The spring 2013 kickoff is specially tailored to Mother's Day, making it a great place to find gifts or, even better, shop with mom in tow. Choose from Jemma Baby's Yummy Bath Fizzees, vintage Parisian earrings from My French Attic, MOM charm bracelets from Beads on the Bus, home spa gift baskets by Spinster Sisters and hundreds of other mom-worthy giftables, and while you're there, enjoy food truck fare, live music and DIY crafting booths.
