What was once just an I-70 underpass at the corner of 46th Avenue and Lincoln Street in Globeville is being transformed into a work of art.

With the help of well-known muralist Jolt, a Westword MasterMind whose Guerilla Garden studio is in the area, kids in the PlatteForum's ArtLab are creating a one-of-a-kind mural focused on the history of the neighborhood. To help prepare for the project, the young artists researched the history of Globeville, so that this would be an accurate addition the community would be proud of.

And though we've heard of some dust-ups with a few neighbors, the painting continues. Not only is this a way for the ArtLab kids to pay homage to the neighborhood where many of them grew up, it's also a way to bring the community together through the creative process.

This is one of two murals that will be painted on this I-70 underpass. Artist Anthony Garcia, of Birdseed Collective, will soon paint a second mural on the south side of the structure.

Denver's Urban Art Fund is supporting the mural project. "It is important for our urban to tap into their creativity and share their talent with their neighborhoods in Globeville," says Denver City Council rep Judy Montero; Globeville is in District 9.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Sunday, August 11 to formally unveil the mural. The painting is supposed to be completed tomorrow.
