Party! Party! On Thursday, September 12, many of the town's movers and shakers will gather on the 19th Street Bridge in Riverfront Park for the Greenway Foundation's annual Gala on the Bridge. But that's just the start of the fun. From 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, September 13, the inaugural After Party on the Bridge in Riverfront Park will celebrate the river that runs through town with a party that includes street food, cocktails and a concert, with special performances by Born in the Flood (with Nathaniel Rateliff) and FLASH/LIGHTS, along with DJ Chuck Lepley and Wonderbound.

Tickets are $75 and support the Greenway Foundation -- but we're giving away a pair to the After Party right here. To enter, all you have to do is post a comment below on why you love the South Platte by midnight tonight; we'll pick a winner tomorrow morning.

Most great cities are built along the water. I love that Denver continues to increase its appreciation and use of its bodies of water.

I love the smell of the river sage along the Platte. I have grown up floating down this river.  Since the early seventies it's been my personal sanctuary .

The first time I laid eyes on the South Platte was the first time I visited Denver. I thought Confluence Park was one of the most special places I had ever seen in the heart of a city. Since then I've become a resident of Denver, and the Platte keeps finding me! I feel like it's one of those things that is everywhere at once. My favorite place to boat, Chatfield Resevoir - is actually the South Platte River. My favorite place to camp, Eleven Mile State Park -  it's the South Platte too. It's a river that connects so many people and places in and around the state, but the heart of it, right where the city and the parks come together, will always be my favorite.

The South Platte provides a great guide to running, biking, and hobo-watching.  In the summer families gather for swimming, sunning, picnicking, and even outdoor movie watching.  The South Platte is a great microcosm of our dear city.

Riverfront park draws me near to the Platte River, which runs through the heart of our beautiful city, Denver. People say since I have called Denver my home now for 13 years, I'm now a Denverite, but I still feel the grace of being a sort of 'guest' here... So lucky and grateful to reside in Denver and call her my home. Be like the Platte and go with the flow!
