Halloween is still weeks away, but this weekend we've got some spooky primers, including a haunted walk through Castlewood Canyon and a zombie fashion show. Black Sheep Fridays: Debating for Guffman at the MCA Denver (Friday, $5)
Black Sheep Fridays returns, opening the season with anold-fashioned meeting of the minds. Taylor Gonda and Kevin O'Brien of the These Things Matter podcast will defend Waiting for Godot as actor Brian Colonna and comedian Andrew Orvedahl bring it for Waiting for Guffman in "Debating for Guffman," while onlookers enjoy drinks on the MCA's rooftop patio. Hell Is in New Jersey Book Release Party at Mutiny Information Cafe (Friday, Free)
Though local author and musician Andy Thomas promises he won't bore you by reading excerpts from his new novel, there will still be plenty of action at this reception. Enjoy free beer and browse a collection of gently used books at this unique shop, or simply grab a copy of the new Hell Is in New Jersey and chat with the author in person.
Minor Disturbance Presents: Aaron Samuels and super friends live at Deer Pile (Saturday, $5-$10 donation)
Denver's young slam poets are on fire, and there is no better place to catch a great showcase of their work than Deer Pile. World Poetry Slam winner Aaron Samuels headlines the night, which will include performances by members of Minor Disturbance, Westword cover-woman Suzi Q. Smith and more. All ages are welcome at this evening of words and wisdom.
The Roast of Ginger Douglas -- a Fundraiser for Colorado Flood Victims at Tracks (Saturday, $5)
Come out and watch the roast of one of Denver's premier queens, Ginger Douglas, and help victims of the recent floods with just a $5 donation.If you bring three non-perishable food items, you get a raffle ticket to win VIP bottle service at Tracks for the evening.
Lilliputian Hallucination: a Perceptual Distortion by Corrina "Crazie" Espinosa & Friends at Good Thieves Press (Saturday, Free)
Local multimedia artist Corrina "Crazie" Espinosa creates sculptures of all sizes, but her specialty is Little Crazy People, diorama-sized figures in various colors and situations. Tonight she debuts new work in her latest show, A Lilliputian Hallucination: a Perceptual Distortion; the lineup includes collaborative pieces by Thomas Sharfenberg, Stacey Gibbs, "Erin Bee" Lea-Dogherty, R. Tyler Christopherson, Javier Flores, Martin Schneider, Amy Odorizzi and more.
