On Thursday, October 31, the Laughing Goat at 1709 Pearl Street in Boulder will be the host of a Halloween party to help Boulder flood victims -- and also to introduce some of the 200 people getting tattooed in the Boulder Tattoo Project, which we profile in this week's cover story. And by doing good, you'll also have a good time: You get eight hours of entertainment for the $5 suggested entry donation.

Get there early for family time, which includes an art table, face-painting and temporary tattoos for the kids. Or stop by for happy hour, which runs from 4 to 8 p.m. and includes local craft beer and wine.

And there are other amusements: An aerial performance starts at 6:45 p.m.; there's soul music from Dechen Hawk and friends from 7 to 9 p.m., and a dance party with DJ Mike Jones runs from 9 to 11 p.m.

If you spot someone dressed as the Flatirons, Great Plains or water, it's a good guess that costume was inspired by "Boulder Zodiac," the sixty-line poem that the Boulder Tattoo Project commissioned Anne Waldman to write about the city of Boulder.

During the first week of November, words and phrases from that poem will be tattooed on the bodies of 200 Boulderites in a week long tattoo-athon titled "run the marathon" -- inspired by a line in the poem. Boulder Tattoo Project Chelsea Pohl divided the poem into 200 pieces; her husband, Vinny Bachert, will be overseeing the tattoos.

Some of the participants paid $250 to choose the words they wanted tattooed on their bodies. It's not too late to contribute -- and get the tattoo you covet. The Boulder Tattoo Project is now offering "tattoo twins" at the $250 sponsorship level: If someone has the word or phrase that you wanted and is willing to have a "tattoo twin," you can get the same tattoo.

But if you'd rather make your mark simply by attending the party, that's a win/win. The Laughing Goat will donate 100 percent of the profits tomorrow night to the Foothills United Way: Flood Relief Fund. Find more information here.
