10 things to do for $10 in Denver this weekend (5 free!), November 15-17
As both the temperature and your bank balance drop, it can be easy to give up on the outside world and fall into a cozy hole at home, with a marathon of all nine seasons of The X-Files on Instant Watch. But it's not yet time to hibernate -- not when the weekend is full of cheap events, from roller disco to a talk by a real-life UFO researcher. Reeewind & Roll at EXDO Event Center (Friday, free before 10 p.m.)
Denver's retro roller disco returns tonight with another evening of rollerskating, DJs and dancing. This month's theme is Hell on Wheels, with a coinciding costume contest. Admissions is free for those who arrive before 10 p.m. (and $10 after).
Denver Avant-Garde Music Society at Crash 45 (Friday, by donation)
The Denver Avant-Garde Music Society's monthly series of eclectic tunes continues tonight with music from Ryan Fiegl, Arnie Swenson, Matthew Hunzeker and ANIMAL/object. The consistently well-curated night will feature a smattering of interesting sounds, as well as a chance to eat one of Crash 45's killer (but not free) cheeseburgers.
Hi-Dive Anniversary Weekend at Hi-Dive (Friday-Sunday, $5)
Over the past ten years, Hi-Dive has hosted tons of amazing bands. Celebrate a decade of tunes and good times at Hi-Dive his weekend with sets from bands including Red Cloud, Zebroids, Git Some and lots more.
Winter Silent Auction at Deer Pile (Friday, $10 donation)
Do some holiday shopping for a worthy cause tonight, when Deer Pile will host a holiday silent auction. Available items include tarot-card readings and Philharmonic tickets; all proceeds go to Prax(us), a local nonprofit that helps fight human trafficking. Enjoy tunes from the Hooks and the Hollows and hear spoken word from Ayinde Russel while you bid.
2013 Members Exhibition at Red Delicious Press (Saturday, free)
Nonprofit studio Red Delicious Press offers a community space where artists can participate in all kinds of printmaking. Tonight the members of the studio will display new work, which ranges from silkscreen to etching, woodcut and monotype. Get a peek into the process and see some very cool art at tonight's reception.
