10 things to do for $10 in Denver this weekend (6 free!), November 8-10
It's certainly the season for flannel, and luckily there's an event that will celebrate this practical cold-weather fashion choice: the annual Lumberjack party. But even if Paul Bunyan attire isn't your bag, there's plenty to do in Denver this weekend that won't completely annihilate your wallet. Drink free cider at a Paris-themed holiday market, catch a reading from a favorite fantasy writer, and more. Our list of ten of the best activities that cost less than $10 follows; let us know about other bargain happenings in the comments section. And visit the online Westword calendar for a full listing of events around town.
Makers at the Merc at the Mercury Cafe (Friday, $5 donation)
Support local artisans and crafters at a Mercury Cafe bazaar tonight. Live music will play while you browse an eclectic selection of completely handmade art, food, jewelry and clothing.
Five Points Arts Walk at Coffee at the Point (Friday, free)
Meet at Coffee at the Point at 6 p.m. this evening for a Denver Arts Week tour of galleries, museums and businesses in Five Points. The tour will include the Black American West Museum, the Stiles African American Heritage Center and more spots rich with art and history.
Harpcore at MCA Denver (Friday, $5)
The MCA's wonderfully bizarro Black Sheep Fridays series continues with Harpcore, a night of classic hip-hop songs performed on gentle harps. Hang out, check out the current exhibits at the museum, and find out what "Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing Ta F' Wit" sounds like on a lovely stringed instrument.
Rescued Memories in Boulder, Lyons, Longmont and Jamestown (Friday-Sunday, free)
Join in an art project to help flood recovery this weekend. Flood victims are invited to bring objects or drawings of objects lost in September's deluge; they'll be combined into a large sculpture in Boulder's Central Park. You can share memories, too, as well as snacks while you engage with the community.
Lipgloss at Beauty Bar (Friday, $5)
We've told you about Michael Trundle's long-running party, Lipgloss, before, but one good turn on the dance floor deserves another. The Friday night Beauty Bar bash consistently features DJs spinning killer songs and a crowd of people on the floor.
