Starz Denver Film Festival November 14 must-see: The Final Member
Again this year, Starz Denver Film Festival artistic director Brit Withey is offering his must-see picks for each day of the fest -- including many flicks that movie lovers might otherwise miss amid the flood of silver-screen goodies.
Today, Withey suggests The Final Member.

If you haven't already guessed based on the title of this Canadian documentary, The Final Member is about penises. But not just any penises. These penises deserve to be preserved for posterity.
"There's this guy in Iceland named Siggi Hjartarson," Withey notes, "and after someone gave him a bull penis as a joke, he said he was going to start a penis museum. And as soon as he said that, people started bringing him specimens -- and this museum becomes really important to him. For years, he's collected specimens from everywhere he could.
"Now, though, Siggi's gotten pretty old, and he wants to retire and pass the museum down to somebody. But the only thing he's always wanted for the museum that he doesn't have is a human specimen. And the movie is pretty much about his search for a donor, and the couple of people who might become the first human donors in the phallus museum."
The candidates include "an Icelandic gentlemen who just won't die -- he's something like 98, but he just keeps living and living and living. And the other one is an American who really wants to be the first. He tattoos an American flag on his penis, and he's so desperate to donate that he even says he'd remove it before he dies."
"The Final Member."
The plot line sounds potentially squirm-inducing, particularly for dudes. But Withey reassures us that "it's a really fun film -- lighthearted, but also strange and fascinating."
