Travis Nichols at the Norlin Library (Friday, free)
CU Boulder's Creative Writing Reading Series brings poets from around the world to read at the school, and you don't have to be a student to take advantage of the free performances. Tonight's guest is Washington, D.C. author Travis Nichols, whose latest novel,The More You Ignore Me, follows a story of unrequited love as told through uninvited posts on a wedding blog. CU MFA candidate Adrian Sobol will introduce Nichols and also read.
Santa Paws Festival at the Cat Care Society (Friday-Saturday, free)
Spend your weekend hanging with the cute felines of the Cat Care Society at the organization's annual holiday bash. You can do some holiday shopping at the bake sale and bazaar, pet the furry creatures, consider adopting a kitty of your own -- and chow down on free popcorn.
Park Hill Arts Weekend at the Art Garage (Friday-Sunday, free)
Take a rare peek inside the studios of Park Hill artists this weekend. In addition to touring workspaces, you can also enjoy an art opening and silent auction at the Art Garage.
Stand-up for Stand for the Silent at the Infinite Monkey Theorem (Friday, by donation)
To help raise money for anti-bullying campaign Stand for the Silent, local comedians will come together for a night of laughter, art and music. The show will feature sets from Adam Cayton-Holland, Chris Charpentier, Kristin Rand and host Heather Snow; donations are encouraged.
