Ten things to do and see during Mo'Print, the Month of Printmaking

Last year galleries across town gave over all of March to the Month of Photography, a biennial showcase of camera-work from not just around the region but around the globe. This year it's Month of Printmaking's turn, loosely tied together by Marina Graves's arts organization without walls, the Invisible Museum. Printmaking can be technically difficult, but it also produces more affordable artworks for serious collectors; as a workman-like medium, though, it's rarely so celebrated. As with MoP, Mo'Print has plenty to offer on many levels; following are ten shows and printmaking events you won't want to miss.

Open Press Ltd.
March 6-April 19

You can still catch the centerpiece of Mo'Print -- the sprawling Open Press 25th Anniversary Exhibit running through April 12 at the McNichols Building that's as much a 25-year retrospective of the local art community as it is a tribute to the longevity of Mark Lunning's fine-art printmaking studio. The more condensed companion show, Past and Present Prints, opening March 6, with a reception from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., is a closeup view of twelve artists who've been working at Open Press on and off throughout its quarter-century of printmaking. Call 303-778-1116 or visit the Facebook event page for details.

ArtHaus Gallery
March 6-19

More than twenty regional artists will be represented in this print show, which opens with a reception from 5 to 10 p.m. March 6 and runs through March 19, but the opening is more of a full-fledged party with live music, snacks and dancing that doubles as fundraiser for the Invisible Museum. It comes with a reasonable price tag of $15, which you can pay at the door or buy online in advance. For more information go to Mo'Print online or call 303-292-1965. Party on!
